This week we thought it would be good fun to have an Easter Bonnet Competition, we would hold it Thursday night as some of us were heading home today to spend Easter with our families. We had a couple of days to make our bonnets, so in between making cards we were all busily beavering away on our bonnets.
Yesterday afternoon, we decorated the Great Hall ready for our Bonnet Competition, we were all given a dozen eggs each to hard boil and decorate and then we arranged them in baskets and dotted them around the room, we cut bunnies and chicks from card, decorated them, and then strung them like bunting from the chandelier to the corners of the room, we also filled vases with daffodils and tulips, the hall looked really beautiful.
We all brought our bonnets into the Great Hall hidden away in boxes and then one by one we would have to put our bonnet on and walk around the Hall so that everyone could take a look, Gayle was going to be the judge and pick the winner.
Most of us had regular Easter bonnets, straw hats, decorated with flowers and bows, an occasional chick, rabbit or egg dotted here and there, but there was also a couple of unusual ones too.
Tammy’s hat was basically a tyre, she had cut up some inner tubes and made flowers which she had dotted around the tyre, and used two rubber balls joined together to make a chick, which was sitting in the hole in the middle of tyre, it wasn’t very colourful as everything was black except for the little piece of orange card she had used to make the chicks beak.
Next came Claire, she had knitted herself a bonnet and then sat Hamish the Haggis on top wearing a pair of knitted bunny ears and a pom pom on his bum.
Helle’s hat was decorated with cold, soggy chips which she’d shaped into a nest and nestling in the middle was a bottle of potato vodka, with a large rubber tube leading from the bottle and down into Helle’s mouth, when she started off the bottle was full, but by the time she had finished her lap of the Great Hall the bottle was empty, Helle was staggering around and mumbling something about Freddy and his tail feathers ( Helle has a pet called Freddy, we are not sure what he is, but he has a feathery tail, and each time Helle needs a feather for a card she just plucks one from poor Freddy’s rear end!)
Maritha’s hat was decorated in Ikea yellow and blue, sitting on the top were four swedes (which she had picked from the vegetable garden that morning) and to each one was pinned a photograph of a member of Abba.
Edna had a whole bunch of eggs with faces painted on them and dressed in leotards, they were dotted around the brim of her hat, in the middle was a sign saying Easter eggsercise class
After a lot of deliberation Gayle picked Renee as the winner, her hat was beautifully decorated with flowers and was a more traditional style of bonnet.
Edna wasn’t very happy with this decision as she thought her hat was the most inventive, so she pulled one of the little egg people off her hat and launched it straight at Renee, luckily Edna hadn’t bothered to hard boil her eggs first, as it hit Renee right in the middle of her forehead, it didn’t really hurt but it did break and Renee had egg running down her face, he he! laughed Edna, the yolks on you!
Renee ran over to Edna, grabbed an egg from her bonnet and smashed it on her nose, as she replied, yes, but who has egg on their face now!
Edna pulled two eggs from her hat and threw them both at Renee, Renee ducked and one egg hit Kirsty-Anne on the chin, broke open and then dripped onto her chest and into her bra, the
other hit Hamish the Haggis as he was sitting on top of Claire’s hat.
Kirsty-Anne picked a decorated egg from the basket nearest to her and flung it with all her might at Edna, unfortunately this was a hard-boiled egg, Edna managed to duck out of the way and the egg flew past her and hit Tammy’s rubber tyre hat, bounced off and headed back towards Edna, who had stood up again and was laughing at Kirsty-Anne for missing her. The egg smashed into the back of Edna’s head and knocked her out, she fell to the floor in a heap.
Meanwhile Claire was upset about Hamish getting hurt and had also picked an egg from a basket and flung it at Edna, it went whistling past Edna’s ear, just as she was ducking down, it hit Maritha’s hat and knocked Bjorn the swede off.
Maritha picked Bjorn the swede up and threw him across the room, swiftly followed by Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid, - the swedes flew through the air in all directions and everyone dived for cover. The swedes landed with a series of thumps and smashed into little pieces.
Maritha ran from the room crying that she had killed Abba, Kirsty-Anne ran from the room crying that she had killed Edna, (who was only knocked out), Claire ran from the room crying because Hamish had a big bruise coming up on his head where the egg had hit him, and Debbie ran from the room crying that she was getting the cleaning materials for us all to clean up the mess.
At this point everyone else ran from the room crying that we were far too upset by the events of the evening and needed to lie down and recover from the shock of seeing Abba smashed into pieces all over the floor.
Once again Debbie was left to clean up on her own and as she was cleaning was heard singing, to the tune of Abba's Waterloo
Lots of goo - smashed into pieces upon the floor
Lots of goo - straight in the bin for evermore,
Lots of goo - couldn't survive if you wanted to
Lots of goo - smashed up too small to go in a stew
Lots of goo - finally cleaning up all the goo
Even though we were busy preparing for our Easter Bonnet competition some of the girls still found some time to put some fabulous creations together for you.
