Fairy Tale Friday #41 AND SPRING SALE

Things have been a bit weird at the towers this week, it all started last weekend when Claire found Edna carrying a very full bin bag down the stairs. Being nosy, Claire asked Edna what was in the bag and Edna replied – just a load of old clothes that I don’t want any more, I’m just popping them by the door for the bin men to take away when they do their rounds later.

After Edna had gone back to her room, Claire decided she would have a quick rummage through the bag, not that she would wear any of Edna’s old clothes of course, nobody in the towers had the same taste in clothing that Edna did, but she thought that she could possibly remove any buttons, ribbons and lace, and maybe find some leopard print garments she could cut up and use on her cards.

Imagine Claire’s surprise and dismay when she started looking through the bag only to find that it was completely full of all the knitted and crocheted (Claire's latest wool related addiction) items that she had made for Edna over the years, for birthdays, Christmases  and often for no reason except that Claire had knitted (or crocheted) it.

There was the lovely pink roll neck jumper with the Christmas stocking on it that she had made for her one Christmas, the lime green and red legwarmers, the navy blue and black bobble hat, the orange and pink fingerless mittens, the brown toilet roll cover, the forest green and purple waistcoat, the grey and yellow scarf, the brown and yellow twinset, the purple, yellow and cerise bed jacket, in fact every single item that Claire had ever made her and not one thing looked like it had ever been worn or used.

Claire was deeply upset by what she regarded as a huge betrayal, she had spent hundreds of hours making all these gifts for Edna and each and every item had been stitched with love.
At this point Claire decided that she needed to get Edna back for her callousness and ingratitude and she knew exactly how to do it, she went off to find a crochet hook and some wool!

Now Edna suffers from Melissophobia, (no that doesn’t mean she’s scared of people called Melissa) it's a fear of bears, you may remember me telling you that she came back from Las Vegas with it and we still haven’t managed to find out what happened to cause it. Of course, it makes things very difficult around the towers as we have to keep Bo and Bea well away from her, she is so scared of bears that she can’t even be in the craft room if any of us are colouring in an image of Bo or Bea. If she so much as sees anything bear related she turns a sickly green colour and starts shaking all over, turns on her heels and runs a mile, shouting something about bearskin rugs, cucumbers and whipped cream!!!  because she is so scared we make every effort to keep anything of an ursine nature away from her.

Over the last couple of days Edna seems to have lost her mind and has started seeing a bear or something resembling a bear a couple of times a day. We often hear a huge scream followed by the sound of running feet and the words bear, cucumber and whipped cream reverberating around the tower, but apart from Bo and Bea who were nowhere near her we couldn’t find sight nor sound of another bear, she claimed it would jump out of doorways at her shouting whipped cream, whipped cream repeatedly, or she would see it’s disembodied head floating around her room in the dead of night waving a cucumber about.

We were really starting to worry about her state of mind and Gayle was thinking of contacting a psychiatrist, until unbeknownst to us all Kirsty-Anne came up with a plan to see if Edna was really going doolally or if there was something else going on.

Last night she hid in Edna’s bedroom clasping her camera tightly to her bosom, and waited.....and waited..... and waited .....then in the early hours of the morning when the night was at its darkest she saw something moving about, so she grabbed her camera and took a quick photo.

We all gathered around the computer this morning to see what she had snapped and this is what we saw…………..

Claire - wearing a hat she had crocheted, had been jumping out of doorways and from behind cupboards as Edna went past and then going into her bedroom in the dead of night and waving a cucumber in her face, as revenge for Edna throwing all her hand knitted gifts away.

Of course as soon as Edna saw the photograph she went running up to Claire’s room ready for some fisticuffs, she threw open Claire’s door but Claire just grabbed the hat and started waving it and Edna went running off screaming yet again.
